Calendar for July 1 Holy Martyrs Leontius, Hypatius and Theodulus.
The Roman governor in Tripolis, a native of Greece. The governor Hadrian sent a detachment of soldiers to capture Leontius. On the way, the commander of the detachment, Hypatius, fell ill, to whom an angel of God appeared and said: “You will be healed if you cry out three times, with all your soldiers: God of Leontius, help me.” This they did, and Hypatius was healed. The soldier Theodulus was especially delighted with this. Hypatius and Theodulus hurried forward, Leontius received them graciously and explained his faith in Christ. At that moment, dew fell from the clouds on the two of them, and Leontius said: “In the name of the Most Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Hadrian ordered that Hypatia and Theodula be beheaded with axes, and Leontius's entire body was covered with wounds, finally he was thrown to the ground and beaten to death. They suffered in the year 73.
