ALL SAINTS SUNDAY IN THE CHURCH OF ST. NICHOLAS
Protopriest Staurophor Vasilije Tomić, today on All Saints Sunday, the first after Pentecost, with the clergy of the Kotor Parish, served the Holy Liturgy in the Church of St. Nicholas in the Old Town.
All Saints Sunday (Greek: Αγίων Πάντων), is the first Sunday after Pentecost, dedicated to all the Saints, as the "harvest of the Spirit of God" and the "fruits of Divine grace" sent to people on the day of Pentecost. Since not all canonized Saints have their days designated for celebration in the calendar, and especially since the names of all those glorified by the Lord are not known, the Church established this holiday.
Back in the time of St. John Chrysostom, the memory of all the Holy Martyrs was celebrated on the Sunday after Pentecost.
In the service of this day and the synaxar, all the Saints are listed by rank: forefathers, patriarchs, prophets, apostles, martyrs, priests, martyrs, holy martyrs, venerable, righteous, and the entire image of holy women.
Archpriest Stavrophor Vasilije Tomic served in Richmond Hill (Canada) until May 2017, when he retired at his own request.
Previously, in February 2012, Patriarch Irinej appointed him as the hierarchal deputy of the Canadian diocese.
