Bishop Grigorije in Tivat: Martyrdom is a love that does not depart
His Eminence Archbishop of Düsseldorf-Berlin and Metropolitan of Germany, Mr. Grigorije, and His Eminence Bishop of Diocletia, Mr. Paisijes, with the clergy, led a procession with the relics of the Prevlaka martyrs to Tivat 11.05.2025. on the feast of the Burning of the Relics of Saint Sava at Vračar. This procession is traditionally organized as part of the event “In the Light of Christ’s Resurrection – Bokelje to Saint Sava and the Prevlaka Martyrs”, which this year marks the 25th anniversary of the celebration of the Holy Prevlaka Martyrs.
Metropolitan of Germany, Mr. Gregory and the faithful set off on a procession from the Temple of Saint Sava in Tivat to the city waterfront Pina, where they solemnly welcomed the relics of the Holy Martyrs of Prevlaka, which were transported by boat, accompanied by Bishop Paisios of Dioclea and Abbot Archimandrite Benedict, from the Miholjska Prevlaka Monastery, which today prayerfully celebrated its feast day – the feast of the Holy Martyrs of Prevlaka. After passing through the streets of Tivat, the procession returned to the Church of Saint Sava, where an evening service was celebrated.
His Eminence Metropolitan Gregory addressed the congregation with an archpastoral sermon, emphasizing that martyrdom is the heart of the Church, a love that does not deviate, that does not give up on the Truth. The Church in the martyrs, as he said, does not celebrate death and suffering, but the Truth – it celebrates Christ in man.
“Because a martyr is not a tragic figure – he is a liturgical figure. Such were the Holy Martyrs of Prevlaka – monks, disciples of Saint Sava, who lived quietly, but suffered bloodily. Not because they fought with the sword, but because they belonged to Christ. They did not have an army on earth, but they were part of the heavenly army. Their death is not a defeat – their death is a song. Their death is a liturgy,” said Metropolitan of Germany, Mr. Gregory.
The spiritual gathering of Orthodox Boka continued in the Tivat Cultural Center with the Assembly of the Boka Choirs.
