BLAGOVIJESTI – HOLY LITURGY CELEBRATED IN THE CHURCH OF ST. NICHOLAS
The feast of the Annunciation was liturgically celebrated in the Church of St. Nicholas in the Old Town of Kotor.
The Holy Liturgy was presided over by Archpriest-staurophor Milenko Jekić, with the concelebration of priest Vojislav Mijatović.
When the Most Holy Virgin had been in the temple in Jerusalem for 11 years, or 14 years since her birth, the priests informed her that, according to the law, she could no longer stay there, but was obliged to marry. But she replied that she had dedicated herself to God and wanted to remain a virgin until her death. Then the high priest Zechariah gathered 12 unmarried men from the tribe of David in order to present the Virgin Mary to one of them. And they gave her to the elder Joseph of Nazareth, who was her relative. In Joseph's house, the Most Holy Virgin continued to live as in the Temple of Solomon, in prayer and needlework. But when the time foretold by the prophet Daniel had come, the archangel Gabriel appeared to her and told her that she would give birth to the Son of God.
“Hearing this good news from the Angel, the Most Pure One submitted to the will of her Lord, and with the deepest humility answered from a God-loving heart: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word (Luke 1:38). And immediately in her holy womb, by the action of the Holy Spirit, conception took place in an inexpressible manner, without bodily pleasure, but not without spiritual pleasure. For then the heart of the Virgin was especially melted by divine longing, and her spirit burned with the flame of seraphim love, and her whole mind, as if outside of itself, was immersed in God and delighted in His love in an inexpressible way; and in that spiritual delight of hers, with sweet love of God and intellectual vision of God, the Son of God was conceived, and the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us by becoming human” (from the Lives of the Saints – Venerable Justin of Celius).
According to the schedule of services during Holy Week, today at 7 p.m. in the Church of St. Nicholas there is a Vigil.
