Calendar for April 21 Easter Monday
Early on Sunday, before dawn, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Salome and some other women went with prepared spices to the tomb of Christ. The large stone that closed the tomb of Christ was rolled away, the tomb was empty! An angel of the Lord sits on the stone, with a face like lightning and a garment as white as snow. The soldier guards are frozen with fear. The angel announces the good news to the myrrh-bearing women: “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, just as he said… Go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen.” The women set off, and at the same time the confused soldier guards run into the city to inform the Jewish leaders about what they had seen.
The people rejoice, all of nature rejoices! Christ is risen, the devil and death are defeated! With His miraculous resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ opened the way to eternal life for us, opened the way to the final resurrection of the dead on the last day, the day of His second coming.
