Calendar for December 20 Venerable Gregory of Gornjak
Serbian by origin. A disciple of Saint Gregory of Sinai and Saint Romilus of Ravan, whose life he wrote. He founded the monastery of Saint Nicholas on Mount Athos, which was named Grigorijat after him. Not far from this monastery is his cell, where he prayed to God in silence, and was later nicknamed the Silent One. When the Turks attacked Mount Athos, he moved to Serbia, to the Holy Prince Lazar, where together with him he built the monastery of Ždrelo, later named Gornjak. He rested peacefully around 1406, but it is not known where, whether in Gornjak or in Grigorijat. In any case, his relics were found in the Gregoryate, from where, after the great fire of 1761, some monks transferred them to the Gornjak Monastery, where they are still located today.
Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan. Venerable Nils of Stolben. Theophilus, Bishop of Antioch. Christmas Fast.
