Calendar for December 8 Saint Hieromartyr Clement
Born in Rome, of imperial parents. His mother, two brothers, and father were lost in the East. When he went to look for them, he met the apostle Barnabas in Alexandria. His brothers Faustinus and Faustinian had already been with the apostle Peter, who found his mother as an old beggar woman, and then his father. Before being crucified, the apostle Peter appointed him bishop of Rome. Emperor Trajan exiled him to Cherson, where he found 2,000 Christians hewing stones in a waterless place. The saint brought them water. He converted so many unbelieving inhabitants of that region to Christianity that 75 churches were built there in a year. Saint Clement was drowned at sea in 101 AD, and his relics were only recovered from the sea during the time of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
Hieromartyr Peter, Archbishop of Alexandria. Venerable Paphnutius. Devotion to the Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos. Christmas Fast.
