Calendar for February 14 Holy Martyr Tryphon – (Pre-Feast of the Meeting)
Born in the village of Kampsada in Phrygia, into a poor family. Even as a child, he healed people and livestock and cast out evil spirits. The Roman emperor Gordian had a daughter, Gordiana, who went mad and doctors could not help her. Once a demon spoke out of her and said that no one could cast it out except Tryphon. The emperor's men brought many Tryphons to Gordiana, and finally a young man from Kampsada. He healed the emperor's daughter and the overjoyed emperor rewarded him richly. On his return home, he distributed all the gifts to the poor and, returning, continued to tend geese and pray to God. When the Christ-defying Decius became emperor, Tryphon was handed over to the torturers. He accepted the sufferings for Christ with great joy, but they did him no harm. In the end, he was beheaded, in the year 250.
Holy Martyrs Pepertua, Felicitas, Satyrus and others with them. Venerable Peter of Galatia.
