Calendar for February 6 Venerable Xenia of Rome
She was born in Rome as the only daughter of a famous senator. When her parents wanted to marry her off, she fled with two slaves to Mylas, on the island of Coa, where she founded a virgin monastery. There she practiced asceticism until her death. Although weak in body, she had a manly endurance in fasting, vigils and prayer. She often stood up all night in prayer. She was dressed more poorly than all the sisters in the monastery. She often sprinkled ashes from the censer on the bread she ate. She reposed in 450. At the moment when she gave up her soul to God, a wonderful sign appeared over the virgin monastery: a wreath of stars with a cross in the middle. The relics of Saint Xenia are healing. Her slaves followed her in everything. At their own request, they were buried at her feet.
Holy Martyr Babel. Venerable Macedonia. Venerable Philo, Bishop of Cyprus. Venerable Dionysius of Olympia. Blessed Xenia of Petrograd.
