Calendar for February 7 Saint Gregory the Theologian
Born in Nazianzus, to a Greek father and a Christian mother. Before being baptized, he attended school in Athens, with Basil the Great and Julian the Apostate. He prophesied to Julian that he would apostatize and persecute the church. Saint Basil the Great ordained him Bishop of Sasima. He later became Archbishop of Constantinople. He wrote many works, the most famous of which are theological, for which he was called Theologian. He wrote against the heretic Macedonius, who taught that the Spirit was a creature of God, against Apollinarius, who taught that Christ did not have a human soul, but that his divinity was in place of his soul, and against Emperor Julian the Apostate. He left Constantinople and went to Nazianzus, where he died in 390.
