Calendar for February 8 Venerable Xenophon and Maria
Respectable and wealthy citizens of Constantinople, Xenophon and Maria, lived a godly life and raised their sons John and Arcadius in the Christian spirit. They sent them to study in Virith (Beirut), but the ship sank. By God's providence, they were saved, but they swam to two places, not knowing about each other. Out of grief for one another, both became monks. After two years, Xenophon and Maria, in grief for their sons, whom they thought had drowned, went to Jerusalem to worship. With the help of the insight of a spiritual father, the brothers first met, and then their parents with them. Grateful to God, Xenophon and Maria distributed their property to the poor, and they also became monks. This holy family lived in the 5th century.
Venerable Simeon the Elder. Saint David, Tsar of Georgia.
