Calendar for January 15 Venerable Seraphim of Sarov
One of the greatest teachers of the Russian Church, born in the city of Kursk, of pious and wealthy parents, in 1759. At the age of nineteen, he went to the Sarov Monastery, where he became a monk. He spent many years in the desert where he constantly practiced asceticism and prayed to God. He constantly wore the same clothes, simple, poor. The Most Holy Theotokos appeared to him twelve times, and he also saw the Lord Jesus Christ in the form of the Son of Man. Many of his teachings have been recorded. He dedicated his entire life to gaining the Holy Spirit, which is the main goal of Christian life, and the greatest fruits of the Spirit are joy and peace. “Acquire the spirit of peace, and then thousands around you will be saved,” said Saint Seraphim of Sarov. He died in the Lord in 1833.
