Calendar for January 24 Venerable Theodosius the Great
He established and organized a monastic community. He was born in Cappadocia. As a young man, he visited Simeon the Stony, who prophesied great spiritual glory to him. With a censer in which he placed unlit coal and incense, he looked for a place to settle and build a monastery. He stopped where the censer caught fire by itself. Soon many monks gathered around him, of various languages, and he built a church for each language. All property, food, and labor were common to them. Theodosius was a sublime example of living in Christian asceticism, and God gave him the gifts of miracles, healing, communication at a distance, taming beasts, and clairvoyance. He died in 529, at the age of 105.
