Calendar for January 5 Venerable Nahum of Ohrid – Tucindan
One of the Five-Numbered, a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius. He traveled to Rome with Saint Clement, where he became famous for his miracles and learning. He spoke many languages. After returning from Rome, the two of them settled on the shores of Lake Ohrid. Saint Clement became bishop of Ohrid, and Saint Nahum founded a monastery on the southern shore of the Lake. A multitude of monks gathered around Saint Nahum, from all over the Balkans. He was a wonderful ascetic, a wise teacher, a miraculous prayer writer and spiritual father. He translated the Holy Scriptures and other liturgical books from Greek into Slavic. He performed miracles while still alive. Many sick people, especially the mentally ill, still approach his miraculous relics today. He died in the first half of the 10th century.
