Calendar for July 10 Venerable Sampson the Foreigner
He was born of rich and famous parents in Rome, where he studied all the sciences of that time and devoted himself to medicine. Then he moved to Constantinople and settled in a small house from which he radiated alms, comfort, hope and every help, spiritual and physical. Seeing this, the patriarch ordained him to the rank of priest. When Emperor Justinian the Great fell ill, all the doctors told him that the disease was incurable, but he prayed fervently to God and in a dream it was revealed to him that Sampson would cure him. And so it was, as soon as the elder Sampson placed his hand on the sore spot, the disease disappeared. The emperor offered him great wealth, but Sampson agreed only to build him a house for the poor, to whom he served as a parent to children. He died peacefully in 530.
Saint Severus the Presbyter. Saint Joan of Myrrh-bearing. St. Peter's Day Fast.
