
Calendar for July 13 The Council of the Holy Twelve Apostles – Paul’s Day
The Church has designated this day as the council feast of all 12 apostles, although each of them has its own special day of celebration. Here is how they ended their earthly life: Peter was crucified upside down, Andrew was crucified, James the son of Zebedee was beheaded, John the Theologian died miraculously, his body was not found in the tomb, Philip was crucified, Bartholomew was crucified, then flayed and beheaded, Thomas was pierced with five spears, Matthew the Evangelist was burned in the fire, James the son of Alphaeus was crucified, Thaddeus (or Judas the son of James) was crucified, Simon the Zealot was crucified, Matthias was crucified, then beheaded with an axe, Paul was beheaded. In the Synaxarion of the Church of Constantinople, on this day not only the Council of the Holy Twelve is celebrated, but also the Council of the Holy Seventy Apostles.
