Calendar for July 14 Holy Martyrs and Moneyless Cosmas and Damian
They were brothers, born in Rome. They were baptized as children and raised in the Christian spirit. They had great grace from God to heal people and animals from every disease, usually by laying on of hands. They did not ask for rewards for their labor, they only required the sick to believe in the Lord Christ. They inherited a large estate, but they distributed it to the poor. The holy brothers were brought chained by the persecutors of Christians before Emperor Carinus, who ordered them to renounce Christ and offer sacrifices to idols. But the brothers miraculously healed the emperor himself, so he declared his faith in Christ and released them. Envious of their fame, a physician, their former teacher, under the pretext that they were gathering medicinal herbs, took them to the mountain and stoned them to death in 284.
Venerable Peter the Patrician. Holy Martyr Potitus.
