Calendar for July 30 Saint Great Martyr Marina – Fiery Mary
Native of Antioch of Pisidia, of pagan parents. At the age of 12, she learned about the Lord and soon vowed not to marry. Her father hated her because of her faith. The governor of Emperor Diocletian, Olympias, desired her as his wife, and when she refused him and refused to bow to idols, he ordered her to be tortured, and then threw her bloody into prison. There she prayed to God, but the devil appeared to her in the form of a snake that sputters when she crosses herself. Then a heavenly light shone on her and it seemed to her that the walls of the prison had disappeared. At the same time, a shining cross appeared to her with a dove standing on it. And God healed her. Then they threw her into the fire and drowned her in water, and finally they cut her down. Just before her death, the Lord appeared to her with angels.
