Calendar for June 19 Venerable Vissarion
Born and raised in Egypt. He early devoted himself to the spiritual life and “does not defile the spiritual garment in which he is clothed with holy baptism”. He visited Saint Gerasimos on the Jordan, and listened to Saint Isidore Pelusiotus. He conquered his body with great fasting and vigils, but he hid his asceticism as much as possible from people. Once he stood in prayer for forty days without eating or sleeping. He wore one garment both in summer and winter. He had a great gift of miracles. He had no permanent place of residence, but lived in the mountains and forests until his old age. He healed the sick and performed many other miracles for the benefit of people and for the glory of God. He peacefully reposed in 466.
Venerable Hilarion the New. Venerable Martyrs Archelaus, Thecla and Susanna.
