Calendar for June 20 Saint Hieromartyr Theodotus of Ancyra
This martyr of Christ was a secret Christian. He was an innkeeper in Ancyra during the time of Emperor Diocletian. He helped the church and buried the bodies of the holy martyrs. Thus, he buried the bodies of 7 girls who suffered for Christ: Tecus, Alexandra, Claudia, Phaena, Euphrasius, Matrona and Julia, who were drowned in a lake after being tortured. Saint Tecus appeared to Theodore in a dream and told him to take out their bodies and bury them, which he did with one friend on a dark night. But that friend betrayed him to the judge, who put him to torture, broke his teeth with stones, and turned his body into wounds. He was beheaded in 303. His body was buried by a priest. A temple was later built there. Saint Theodotus of Ancyra was beheaded for Christ on this day.
Venerable Daniel of Scetis. Holy Martyrs Cyriacus, Valeria, and Mary. Hieromartyr Marcellus, Pope of Rome.
