Calendar for March 1 Saint Great Martyr Theodore Tyrone
When Theodore joined the army (tyron means recruit), in the Marmaris regiment in the city of Amasia, he began the persecution of Christians under the emperors Maximian and Maximinus. Theodore did not hide the fact that he was a Christian. After a long persuasion by his elders to renounce Christ God and to offer sacrifice to idols with them, to which Theodore would not agree, they threw him into a prison that they sealed. But in prison the Lord Jesus Christ Himself appeared to him and told him not to take earthly food anymore, because he would be with Him in eternal life. At that moment the whole prison was brightly lit up and the terrified guards saw angels dressed in white. Then Theodore was taken out and subjected to severe torture. They exhausted him by throwing him into a fire. Saint Theodore suffered for Christ in the year 306.
