Calendar for March 15 The Holy Hieromartyr Theodotus of Cyrene
He was elected bishop of Cyrene, in Cyprus, for his wisdom and virtue. When the persecution of Christians broke out during the time of Emperor Licinius, he was brought to trial. The torturer Sabinus advised him to renounce Christ and worship idols. When he refused, he was put to torture. They beat his body with nails, and he prayed to God with gratitude. Thinking that his end was near, grateful to God for having honored him with the crown of martyrdom, he taught the Christians who were around him. But, by the providence of God, Emperor Constantine proclaimed freedom for the Christians and ordered the release of all prisoners for the sake of Christ. Thus tortured, Saint Theodotus returned to his throne and lived for another two years. He ended his earthly life in 302.
Holy Martyr Troadius. Four hundred and forty Italian Martyrs. Venerable Agathon. Holy Martyr Euthalia. Holy Martyr Theodore of Komogovino.
