Calendar for March 16 The Holy Martyrs Eutropius, Cleonicus and Basiliscus
Young men, companions of Saint Theodore Tyrone with whom they were in prison. Eutropius and Cleonicus were brothers by birth, and Basiliscus was a relative of Saint Theodore. After the glorious death of Saint Theodore, they remained in prison for a long time, due to the change of the imperial governor in Amasia. In vain the new governor tried to win over Eutropius. First he invited him to dine with him. He refused with the words from the Psalm: “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.” Then he offered him great wealth, and he reminded him that Judas lost his soul for money. After the tortures they were subjected to, the brothers Eutropius and Cleonicus were crucified on two crosses, for which they gave thanks to Christ, and Basiliscus was beheaded with the sword. They gave up their souls to the Lord in the year 308.
