Calendar for March 19 - Holy 42 martyrs of Amorite
All were dukes of the Byzantine emperor Theophilus, who were captured by the Saracens with other Christians when they captured Amorea. The rest of the captives were either killed or sold into slavery, and the dukes were thrown into prison where they remained for 7 years. More than once, Muslim leaders came to advise them to accept Mohammedanism, but the dukes would not even listen. When they told them that Muhammad is the true prophet and not Christ, the dukes explained to them that Christ has many witnesses, old prophets from Moses to John the Forerunner, who testify about Him, and Muhammad himself testifies for himself and has no witnesses. They were cut down in 845. The Saracens threw their bodies into the Euphrates, but they floated to the other shore where the Christians buried them.
Blessed Job. Holy martyrs Conon the father and Conon the son. Easter fast.
