They were all soldiers in the Roman army. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Licinius, they were stoned, but the stones returned. The tortured martyrs tied them up and threw them into the lake in the terrible frost. So that no one would deny Christ, they heated the bath by the lake. One came out of the water and went to the bath. But at night, an unusual light fell from the sky, warming the water in the lake and with it 39 wreaths that descended on the heads of the martyrs. Seeing this, a guard from the shore confessed Christ and entered the water instead of the traitor, and the fortieth wreath descended on his head. Then their legs were broken and they were thrown into the water. On the third night, the local bishop and the people gathered their bodies, which were glowing like candles, and buried them honorably. This would have been in the year 320.
