Calendar for March 23 Holy Martyr Codratus of Corinth
His mother, having fled to the mountains from the persecution of Christians, gave birth to him in the forest and soon died. Codratus grew up alone, protected, fed and guided by God's providence and a guardian angel. When he was 12 years old, he went down to the city and was taken in by some good people there and given to study. He studied medicine. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Decius, Codratus was thrown into prison. There, having confessed Christ, he was joined by five companions: Cyprian, Dionysius, Anectus, Paul and Crescentus. They were dragged through the streets to the place of execution, beaten and stoned. They were especially tormented by pagan children. They were beheaded in Corinth in 250. At that place a spring of water emerged, which is still called Codratus's name today.
