Calendar for March 24 Saint Sophronius of Jerusalem
Born in Damascus of illustrious parents. Having studied secular sciences, he went to gather spiritual wisdom. In the monastery of Saint Theodosius, he was accepted as a student by the monk John Mosha, with whom he went to visit ascetics and monasteries in Egypt. Everything they wrote down was published in two books under the name "Limonar". Then they went to Rome, where John reposed. Sophronius returned to Jerusalem, where he was present at the return of the Holy Cross from Persia. He was elected Patriarch of Jerusalem in 634. He condemned the Monothelite heresy at his council in Jerusalem before it was condemned at the VI Ecumenical Council. He wrote the life of Saint Mary of Egypt, composed the act of the great blessing of water… He reposed in the Lord in 644.
