Calendar for May 23 Saint Apostle Simon the Zealot
One of the Twelve, a native of Cana of Galilee. The Lord Jesus Christ came to his wedding with His Most Holy Mother and disciples. When the wine ran out, the Lord turned water into wine. Seeing this miracle, the groom left his house, his bride, and his parents and followed Christ. Zealot means Zealot. Simon was called Zealot because of his great zeal for the Savior and His Gospel. Having received, with the other apostles, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit, he went to preach the Gospel in Mauritania, in Africa. After converting many to the faith of Christ, he was put to torture and finally crucified on the cross, like his Lord, whom he faithfully served and who received from him the crown of glory in the immortal Kingdom of Heaven.
Holy Martyrs Alphaeus, Philadelphus and Cyrinus. Venerable Isidore the Foolish. Blessed Thaisa.
