Calendar for May 26 Holy Martyr Glykeria
Daughter of a governor from Rome. After her father's death, she settled in Trajanopolis in Thrace. During the reign of Emperor Antoninus, she was taken out to offer sacrifice to the idol of Zeus. She drew a cross on her forehead and, at her prayer, a thunderbolt struck and shattered the idol. After beating her, the governor threw her into a prison that he sealed, intending to starve her to death. But Glykeria was fed heavenly food by an angel of God. When they opened the prison, they saw her healthy and cheerful, all radiant. The jailer of Laodicea, seeing this miracle, believed in Christ and immediately beheaded him. And Glykeria was thrown into a fiery furnace, where she remained unharmed. Finally, they threw her before the lions, where the holy virgin gave up her soul to the Lord. She suffered in 177. Myrrh flowed from her relics.
Hieromartyr Risto (Jaramaz). Holy Martyr Alexander. Venerable John, Euthymius, George and Gabriel of Iveria.
