Calendar for May 27 Saint Martyr Isidore
From the island of Chios. From an early age, he spent his days and nights in fasting and prayer. During the reign of Emperor Decius, he was forcibly taken into the army. When they learned that he was a Christian, they brought him before the commander, who advised him to renounce Christ and offer sacrifice to idols. When he resolutely refused, the commander ordered him to be beaten with ox sinews. Then they cut out his tongue. But even without a tongue, by the Spirit of God, Isidore confessed Christ. God's punishment soon came to the commander - he suddenly became mute. Unable to speak, the commander signaled the soldiers to behead Isidore, which made him happy and joyfully went to the execution site. His head was cut off in 251. His body was buried by his friend Ammonius, who himself suffered for it.
Venerable Serapion the Syndonite. Holy Martyr Maximus. Blessed Isidore the Foolish.
