Licinius, the son-in-law of Emperor Constantine, whose sister he had married, pretended to be a Christian until the emperor gave him the entire East to rule, and then he began to persecute Christians and gave himself up to idolatry and all passions. From there she corresponded with the empress, but one letter fell into the hands of Licinius, who ordered Glaphyra and the bishop to be brought to him. In the meantime, Glaphyra died, so only Basil was brought. After being tortured, he was beheaded and thrown into the sea, from where his body was pulled out by Christians in nets, near the city of Sinope, and taken to Amasia.
