Calendar for November 19 Saint Paul the Confessor
He was elected Patriarch of Constantinople after the death of blessed Alexander. But that was not right for the heretics Arians, and not even for Emperor Constantius, and Patriarch Paul would soon be forced to escape to Rome, together with Saint Athanasius the Great. In Rome, Pope Julius and Emperor Constans received them warmly and supported them in their Orthodox faith. According to the letter of Emperor Constans and the Pope, Paul was restored to the patriarchal throne. But when Emperor Constans died, the Aryans exiled him to Kukuz, in Armenia. And there, while he was once serving the Holy Liturgy, the Aryans attacked him and strangled him with an omophorion. It was in the year 351. During the time of Emperor Theodosius, in 381, his relics were transferred to Constantinople, and in 1236 to Venice, where they are still today.
