Calendar for November 3 Venerable Hilarion
Born in the village of Tawati near Gaza Palestine, of Gentile parents. In Alexandria, he acquired worldly knowledge, but also recognized the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized. He visited Saint Anthony in the desert and became his disciple. Then he returned to his homeland, where, near Mayum, he continued to do asceticism. Soon, many ascetics gathered around him and he became for Palestine what St. Anthony was for Egypt. Fleeing from human glory, saying through tears: "Woe to me, I have received my wages on earth", he fled from place to place. He lived in Egypt, Sicily, Dalmatia and Cyprus, where he surrendered his soul to the Lord in 372, when he was 80 years old. The miraculous relics were transferred to him by Hesychia's disciple in Palestine.
Saint Hilarion, Bishop of Meglenski. Venerable Philotheus. Venerable Visarion.
