Calendar for November 5 Saint James the Apostle, the first bishop of Jerusalem
One of the Seventy, the son of Joseph, the bridegroom of the Blessed Virgin, called the Brother of the Lord. As soon as he heard Christ's teaching, he began to live by it. They say he lived only on bread and water. A virgin for the rest of his life. He spent his nights in prayer to God. He was a bishop in Jerusalem for 30 years. Following the revelation of the Lord, he composed the first Liturgy. And the unbelieving Jews themselves called him Jacob the Righteous. When he came to Annan the high priest, he and the Jewish elders told him on the Passover to go up on the roof and speak against Christ. He climbed up and began to speak about Christ, so they pushed him off the roof. Then a man came up and hit him on the head so that his brains spilled out. St. Jacob was 63 years old when he suffered for the Lord.
Saint Ignatius, Patriarch of Constantinople. Holy Martyr Jakov Borovicki.
