Calendar for November 9 Holy Martyr Nestor
Saint Dimitrije, a Thessalonian, taught him the faith of Christ. Emperor Maximian entertained the people in various ways, including gladiator fights. His pet was a certain Lija, of goliath height and strength. Seeing how Christians were brought to the gladiator, Nestor went to the prison of St. Demetrius and asked for a blessing to go out to Leo. St. Dimitrije blessed him, marked him with the sign of the cross on his forehead and chest and told him that he would defeat Li, but suffer for Christ. Everyone thought that Lije would easily defeat the beardless young man, but Nestor speared him. And everyone stood shouting: "Great is the God of Dimitri". And the emperor ordered Nestor to be cut with a sword, and Demetrius to be stabbed in the dungeon with spears. Saint Nestor was martyred in 306.
Venerable Nestor the Chronicler. Saint Andrew, Prince of Smolensk.
