Calendar for October 10 Holy Martyr Callistratus
A native of Carthage. His ancestor Neocorus was a soldier with Pontius Pilate and, seeing many miracles at the death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, believed in Him. He was baptized by the apostles. When Callistratus was in the army, he was the only Christian in the regiment. Seeing him praying to God at night, one of his comrades reported him to Duke Percentinus, the great torturer of Christians. The duke ordered Callistratus to make a sacrifice to the idols, and when he refused, he beat him and threw him into the sea. But God rescues him, and he comes out of the sea completely healthy. Seeing his suffering and miracles, 49 soldiers believed in Christ. They were also beaten and thrown into the dungeon. After they bravely endured all the torture, they were all killed in the dungeon. They died in 304.
Holy apostles Mark, Aristarchus and Zinon. Holy New Martyr Akilina. Venerable Savatije Solovetsky.
