Calendar for October 11 Venerable Chariton the Confessor
A respected citizen of Iconia, he publicly confessed Christ. When the persecution of Christians began under Emperor Aurelius, Chariton was immediately brought to court and his whole body was turned into one wound. Then Emperor Aurelius died, and Chariton was released. On the way to Jerusalem, he was caught by robbers from whom, by God's providence, he escaped. Then he retreated to the Faran Desert, where he founded a monastery. He left the constitution to that family and went to another desert, towards Jericho, where he founded another monastery, which was called Chariton's. Finally, he founded the third monastery, Sukijski. He surrendered his soul to the Lord at a very old age, in the year 350. His relics are in the monastery he first founded. They attribute to him the act of the service of monastic circumcision.
Holy Prophet Baruch. Holy Martyr Mark, shepherd. Holy Martyr Wenceslas, King of Bohemia.
