Calendar for October 17 Saint Stephen and Jelena (Štiljanović)
Serbian despot. A native of the village of Boljevići, near Virpazar, in Crmnica. He ruled the Serbian people in very difficult times, first as the prince of Paštrov, and then of Srem. A righteous man of God and a patriot, this wonderful prince can be compared to Saint Alexander Nevsky or Saint John Vladimir. He died at the beginning of the 16th century. A light appeared on his grave at night, by which his relics were found. His relics rested for a long time in the Šišatovac Monastery on Fruška Gora, so they were transferred to Belgrade, in the Cathedral Church, next to the relics of Saint Prince Lazar, where they are still today. His wife Jelena, seeing the incorruptible relics of her husband and the miracles that took place from them, became a monk and devoted herself to the feat until death.
Martyr Jerotej. Venerable Ammon. Reverend Paul the Simple.
