Calendar for October 18 Holy Martyr Haritina
As an orphan, he was adopted by a respectable man, a Christian, Claudius, who raised him as his own daughter. Haritina studied the law of God day and night, and vowed to live in virginity, as the true bride of Christ. She also converted others to the faith of Christ, so Dometian, the governor of Emperor Diocletian, heard about her. As she boldly confesses her faith in Christ in front of Dometian, he orders her hair to be cut. Then they sprinkled embers on her head, but the holy virgin remained unharmed. They threw her into the sea, but God saved her. They tied her to the wheel and began to turn it, but the angel of God stopped him. Then the judge sent some lewd young men to defile her. But she prayed to God, and God took her soul before they touched her.
Priest Martyr Dionysius, Bishop of Alexandria. Venerable Evdokim of Vatopedi. Venerable Damian, Jeremiah and Matthew.
