Calendar for October 26 Saint Martyr Carpus
He was the bishop of Thyatira, a native of Pergamum. He suffered for Christ, with the deacon Papilla, during the reign of Emperor Decius and the governor Valerius. Valerius banished them to Sar, where he put them to torture, but an angel of God healed them. Then they dragged them to Pergamum. Carpus was tied to a tree and whipped until he was covered with wounds. Then he began to laugh. When they asked him why he was laughing, he said that he saw the heavens open and the Lord on the throne, with cherubim and seraphim around him. Papilla, while they were tormenting him, healed a man blind in one eye, and many, seeing this, believed in Christ. They were thrown before wild beasts, then into a fiery furnace, into which Papila's sister Agathonica jumped with them. Finally, they were beheaded with the sword, in the year 251.
Commemoration of the Holy 365 Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council. Holy Great Martyrs Zlata of Maglen and Basil of Pasjan, Hieromartyr Benjamin, deacon.
