Calendar for October 28 Holy priest-martyr Lucian
Born in Samosat, Syria. He received a wide education in his youth. He gave away his property to the poor and supported himself by composing educational works. According to the Jewish text, he corrected many places in the Holy Scriptures that heretics had distorted. He was ordained as a presbyter in Antioch. During the persecution of Christians under Maximian, the heretical priest Pancratius spied on him. Then the two boys, who did not want to eat from idol sacrifices, were thrown into a hot bath, where they expired, and Lucian's student, the virgin Pelagia, threw herself from the roof in front of the lechers. Lucian was brought to Nicomedia, before the emperor. Along the way, he converted 40 soldiers to Christ. They all died as martyrs. St. Lucian surrendered his soul to God in prison in 311.
Venerable Yevtimij the New.
