When the barbarians attacked the Roman Empire, Emperor Trajan sent for him. His comrades found him and he defeated the barbarians. On his return to Rome, he found his wife and sons. Trajan had already died and Hadrian became emperor, who asked Eustathius to offer sacrifices to idols. When he said he was a Christian, they put him to torture, along with his wife and children. They burned them in a red-hot ox.
