Calendar for October 4 Holy Apostle Kodrat
One of the Seventy, a disciple of the great apostles. He was a bishop first in Athens, after Saint Publius, and then in Magnesia. He was very learned. As a light he shone upon the Hellenes, he spread out their idolatrous darkness, and by prayer he destroyed the demonic temples. But the heathen hated the holy man. First they beat him with stones, and then they threw him into a dungeon. They didn't give him food and that's how they tired him. St. Codratus wrote a defense of the Christians and handed it over to Emperor Adrian. This defense made such an impact on the heathen emperor that he ordered the persecution of Christians to be stopped without particular guilt. Saint Kodrat gave his soul to the Lord around 130. He died in Magnesia, where he was buried.
Priest-martyr Hypatius, bishop of Ephesus, and Andrew, presbyter. Saint Demetrius, Bishop of Rostov. Assembly of Saints of Kievo-Pechersk.
