Calendar for October 8 Saint Sergius of Radonezh
Great ascetic and beacon of the Russian Church. He was born in 1313 in Rostov. After the death of his parents, he became a monk and founded the Monastery of the Holy Trinity in the forests of Radonje. Quiet and meek, he spent his time in work and prayer. And God granted him the gift of miracles. He raised the dead in the name of the Lord. The Holy Mother of God appeared to him several times. Dukes and bishops came to him for advice. He blessed Prince Dimitry of Don and predicted to him the victory of the Russians against the Tatars in the war for the liberation of Russia. He saw through the shell of the heart and into events at a distance. His monastery was filled with monks while he was still alive and has been one of the main centers of spiritual life in the Orthodox world for centuries. He died in 1391.
Venerable Ephrosinia. Venerable Efrosinia of Suzdal.
