Happy Birthday to our Patriarch and Father, Mr. Porfirije!
On this day, four years ago, the Holy Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, at its session in the Memorial Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade, elected Metropolitan of Zagreb and Ljubljana, Dr. Porfirije, as Patriarch of Serbia.
Immediately after the election, a thanksgiving service was served and a long life was pronounced to Archbishop of Peć, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovac and Patriarch of Serbia, Mr. Porfirije. The bells of the Temple of Saint Sava in Vračar rang out a few minutes before 4 p.m., signifying that the 46th Serbian Patriarch had been elected. The ceremonial act of enthronement of the newly elected Serbian Patriarch, Mr. Porfirije began on February 19, 2021, with the Holy Synod of Bishops in the Holy Archangel Cathedral in Belgrade. His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Porfirije – from the electoral Synod, through enthronement, divine services, canonical visits to the dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church, meetings with the most important figures from the country and the world, charitable activities, interviews to archpastoral addresses – has been writing the history of the Serbian Orthodox Church for the fourth year in a row.
