HOLY WEDNESDAY - THE HOLY MYSTERY OF ANOINTING WAS CELEBRATED IN THE CHURCH OF ST. NICHOLAS
Today, on Holy Wednesday, the "Holy Mystery of the Blessing of the Oil" was served in the Church of St. Nicholas, by which, as the prayer says, the Lord God heals us from spiritual and bodily ailments.
The sermon was delivered by Archangel Pavle Pajić, parish priest of Tivat.
Тhis holy mystery dates back to the apostles who healed the faithful through prayer and anointing them with oil, and the foundation of the service is in the Epistle of the Apostle James, read today, which refers precisely to the Holy Mystery of the Blessing of the Oil.
In the aforementioned Epistle of the Apostle James it is said: “Is any sick among you, let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him (5:14-15). No one should be called except the priests, the elders of the church; he should not be anointed in any name but in the name of the Lord; no one will raise him up but the Lord himself, nor can anyone forgive his sins but the Lord alone”...
The Holy Mystery of the Consecration of Oil is served by several priests, and several Gospels and prayers are read at the same time.
Today, as the last, a prayer is read with the Gospel spread out above the heads of the faithful, when it is opened at random.
Tomorrow, on Holy Thursday, in the Church of St. Nicholas at 8 am, the Holy Liturgy is at 10 am, and at 8 pm there is the "Reading of the Twelve Gospels" which tell about the suffering of Jesus Christ.
