Patriarch Kirill: NATO aggression showed the hypocrisy of the West and the strength of the Serbian people
NATO's military aggression against Yugoslavia in 1999 clearly showed the hypocrisy of the Western world and at the same time the strength of the Serbian people, Russian Patriarch Kirill said at the extraordinary World Russian People's Assembly.
Patriarch Kirill stated that in 1999 it became clear that the words democracy, freedom, human rights, international law do not represent anything if it is in the interest of the world powers.
- But, despite the unprecedented military measures that the Western countries collectively undertook, nothing succeeded, because the strong faith of the Serbian people, their unwavering devotion to Christ and the Church, as well as their national traditions, continue to spiritually feed our brothers - said the head Russian Orthodox Church.
He stated that during NATO's military aggression against sovereign Yugoslavia, he was in Belgrade and saw this bombing with his own eyes.
- I stayed in a hotel that was above the city center and I could see everything from the hotel's terrace. I will never forget the feeling of amazement when you see rockets flying, falling on a peaceful city, exploding and starting a fire - said Patriarch Kirill.
He noted that all this happened without declaring war, because someone thought to pacify the Serbian people and the whole of Yugoslavia, Sputnik reports.
- I think this picture will remain before my eyes for the rest of my life - said Patriarch Kirill.
