Patriarch Porfirije at the invitation of King Abdullah at the International Conference in Jordan
His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, responding to the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II, traveled today to Jordan, where on December 9 he will take part in the International Conference entitled the Aqaba Process – Balkan Interreligious Dialogue.
The upcoming conference, which will be held in Bethany, on the Jordan River, at the place where Saint John the Baptist baptized our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, is being held on the tenth anniversary of King Abdullah’s peace initiative.
The Aqaba Process is not a formal organization, but a platform for dialogue, coordination and exchange of experiences among political, military, religious and security leaders from around the world. It is expected that His Beatitude Patriarch of Jerusalem, Mr. Theophilus III, His Beatitude Patriarch of Antioch, John X, and His Beatitude Archbishop of Albania, John, with hierarchs, as well as Christian, Jewish, and Islamic religious leaders from the Middle East and the Balkans.
The theme of the dialogue, Bridges between People: Promoting Understanding for Peaceful Coexistence, seems to have been taken from one of the sermons of the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, who constantly calls for building bridges of understanding, cooperation, peace, and love between people and nations.
Along with His Holiness Porfiry, the following will participate in the work of the conference: His Eminences Metropolitans Chrysostom of Dabro-Bosnia and Methodius of Budimlje-Nikšić; and His Eminences Bishops Kirill of Buenos Aires and South-Central America and Vicar Alexei of Hvostan.
