Patriarch Porfirije: Do not allow the Serbian Orthodox people to be expelled from Kosovo and Metohija

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije sent a letter today to Pope Leo XIV, President of the Russian Federation Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the United States of America Mr. Donald Trump, President of France Mr. Emmanuel Macron; Prime Ministers of Italy Ms. Giorgi Meloni, Great Britain Mr. Cyrus Strummer and the Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Friedrich Merz, as well as the Secretary-General of the United Nations Mr. Antonio Guterres and the Director-General of UNESCO Mr. Khaled El Enany, calling on them to use their authority to force the authorities in Pristina to stop the implementation of the extremely discriminatory law on foreigners.

Patriarch Porfirije warns that the implementation of this law would not only jeopardize the work of the University of Kosovska Mitrovica, the elementary and secondary schools that Serbian students attend according to their state's programs, as well as the work of the entire health system in which Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija receive medical care, but also the survival of the Serbian people and Orthodox holy sites.

The implementation of this law would mean that Serbs would lose the opportunity to receive education and treatment, and those employed in education and health care would lose their jobs, which would lead to an even more massive, if not final, exodus of Orthodox Serbs from this centuries-old Christian land, where, to this day, there are about 1,300 Orthodox churches, monasteries and other, previously destroyed, Christian holy sites. The Patriarch reminded world leaders that nowhere else in Europe, despite the previously mentioned destruction, is there such a concentration of Christian holy sites in one place, four of which are on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites in Danger.

Patriarch Porfirije emphasizes that the Serbian Orthodox Church insists on seeking a peaceful solution and expects the Serbian authorities to do everything possible to find a compromise solution. Human lives are the most sacred and we are obliged to protect them, said the spiritual leader of the Orthodox Serbs.
