Patriarch Porfirije meets with Georgian President at the Temple of Saint Sava
His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije met with Georgian President Mihail Kavelashvili, who is on an official visit to Serbia, at the Temple of Saint Sava in Vracar.
His Holiness was accompanied by: Bishop Hilarion of Novo Brdo, Bishop Alexei of Khvost, Archimandrite Nektarije, Secretary of the Holy Synod of Bishops, Archpriest Djordje Stojisavljevic, Chief of Staff of Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, Protodeacons Dragan Radic and Radomir Vrucinic, Deacon Nikola Kostic and Subdeacon Dejan Nakic.
On this occasion, Patriarch Porfirije welcomed the guest and reminded that on the same day in the Orthodox calendar, Saint Sava and Saint Nina are celebrated, which shows us that we have a unique spiritual experience and that we are essentially one people of Christ, one Church. The Orthodox faith is what has shaped us all together and regardless of geographical borders, we are a brotherly people.
President of Georgia Mihail stressed that the Serbian and Georgian people are very close because the histories of these peoples have many similarities, especially when it comes to the Orthodox faith. He thanked the Patriarch for his commitment and contribution to Orthodoxy.
Serbian Patriarch Porfirije and the President of Georgia visited the Temple of Saint Sava in Vracar, and on that occasion President Mihail was introduced to the history of the construction of the temple and the spiritual significance of the largest temple of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
